Our methodology
Every score out of 10 is calculated from the specs published by manufacturers and from market prices checked on a given date. Here are all the formulas, with no exception.

The principle
No score comes from a hands-on test. We have not handled the products compared. Scores rely only on official manufacturer spec sheets (torque, sensor, construction, platforms, warranty, contents) and on market prices from official stores or named European retailers, shown on every product page.
A score compares a product with the other products in its category: direct drive wheel bases, bundles, complete wheels, pedals and cockpits are scored separately. The score of a set of pedals therefore cannot be compared with the score of a cockpit.
The general formula
- Each criterion gets a score from 0 to 10 according to the scale below.
- A criterion with no published value is removed: the weights of the remaining criteria are renormalized to 100%. No value is estimated.
- No score when the price is missing or fewer than two technical criteria are known (warranty and price are not technical criteria).
- The sale price shown on the day of the check is used when there is one, otherwise the regular price.
- The final score is rounded to one decimal place.

* Non-technical criterion: it counts toward the score, but not toward the threshold of two known technical criteria. Bundles use the same criteria as wheel bases.
Scale assumptions
Some values were not set in our original specification. We publish them as they are applied:
- One-year warranty: 4/10.
- Ecosystem: 6 with a stated quick release, 3 without, +2 with a wheel rim in the box, +2 with pedals in the box.
- Contents of a complete wheel: 10 with pedals, otherwise 5.
- Brake force: 20 kg or less gives 3/10.
- A single pedal: 3/10.
- Cockpit: seat included 10/10, not included 4/10.
- Direct drive torque supported by a cockpit: 0 Nm gives 3/10.
- Platforms without PC: 5 with one console family, 8 with both.
- Technical criteria: warranty and price do not count toward the threshold of two known technical criteria.
Labels and ranks
- 8.5 and above: Excellent
- 7.5 to below 8.5: Very good
- 6.5 to below 7.5: Good
- below 6.5: Fair
Ranks are calculated within each category: wheel base, bundle, complete wheel, pedals, cockpit. On a tie, the cheaper product comes first. A product with no score has no rank.
Rig builder and rigs by budget
The rig builder combines a core (bundle, complete wheel or direct drive wheel base), pedals if none are included, and a cockpit if you want one. It only considers rated products that the manufacturer states are compatible with the chosen platform, and picks the combination with the highest average score whose total falls within the budget tier. On a tie, the cheaper combination wins.
- Beginner: bundles and complete wheels; pedals are only added when none are included.
- Intermediate: direct drive required; standalone wheel base and separate pedals possible.
- Competitive: direct drive wheel base or bundle with at least 8 Nm as stated by the manufacturer, plus separate pedals with a load cell, hydraulic or active brake.
- Pedals with no platform stated are only suggested for PC.
- A wheel base sold on its own needs a compatible wheel rim: rims sold separately are not in our data yet, so the rim is not included in the total, and the result says so.
- If no combination fits, the selection is widened (lower budget tier, no cockpit, another experience level), and the result says so.
The budget tiers on the home page follow the same logic with bundles or complete wheels, pedals when needed and, from €1,000, a cockpit.

Limits
